I Know What I Know

I know what I know
And it happens to be true
So I walk with assurance
Because of what I know.

I did not know what I thought I knew
For what I thought did not happen to be true
When you are young you think you know
And it takes some good setbacks
To make you realize that life
Does not play out along the lines
Of what you thought were facts.

A line was drawn in the sand
Way before my arrival
And I, a pawn, but play out scenes
Upon which depend my survival.

For Pondering
  1. What is the theme of this poem?
  2.  Is there a subtheme and if so, what is it?
  3. What is the age of the speaker in this poem?  Substantiate.
  4. Is there pessimism, cynicism, or optimism present? Substantiate your answer.
  5. What would be an appropriate title for this poem? Name three.
Doing What I Can, While I Can Because I Care,

P.S. - This one calls for some deep thinking, y'all.
