Remember that I told you that the ladies at Madison Street had chosen as a theme for their Ladies' Day, "A Shelter in the Time of a Storm." Well, I started off my speech with an acknowledgment of the excellency of that choice. I told them that they had chosen a topic that was near and dear to my heart because nothing else affects our work and walk as Christians like storms (troubles and trials) do. I said, "One thing about it, all of us are in one of three places when it comes to our relationship to storms, and that is, we are in the midst of a storm, just getting out of one or just getting ready to go through one. That got their attention as an opening statement. Then I told them that the lesson was going to have four parts, which are:
- The Love of God
- Why Storms?
- Examples of Storms (personal story included)
- What to Do (in and after our storms)
I held the audience's interest by letting them know from the beginning that I would only have four parts to my lesson. That seems to help when people are prone to get drowsy during your talk. They can gauge themselves by telling that internal clock that there are only two more parts to go, etc. (tee hee)
Under topic I. I discussed the love of God for mankind. I wanted to establish that fact as a basis for all who have storms to remember that no matter what they were going through in their lives, if they could hold on to the fact that God does love them, that fact alone, would help them through the ravages of the storm(s).
You go ahead and read Psalm 104:9 and Job 38:10-11 for tomorrow and see if you can get the gist of what I told my audience about God's love as shown in these scriptures. I will be explaining my lesson for the next four blogging sessions. And do not forget, you can get all of what I had to say on the subjects of storms to read at your leisure in my latest book, Chopping My Row. Available at Barnes and Noble and at Amazon.com.
Doing What I Can, While I Can Because I Care,
Alma L. Stepping On Jones
The glory of the overwhelming response to the book as presented through my speech belongs to God. He is wonderful, isn't He? Yes, He is!
