4th of July

Today is July 4, and we celebrate it as Independence Day, as a day when a new nation was ushered in to ride like Moses in the bulrushes upon the "country sea." We have floundered some, as new babes do, but we never lost our penchant for life, the pursuit of happiness and liberty.

The waters were turbulent at times
Like they are right now
But we persevered with God's help and
Now the babe has grown into a giant of a "wow"
And holds its place on the "sea of nations"
As we, its citizens, pray for prosperity
Continues peace and tranquility.

To Ponder
  1. Who wrote the words inscribed on the base of this statue of the image seen above?
  2. Is the poem relevant today? How or why not? (one paragraph please in your own words, please.)
  3. What is a fitting title for this poem? Explain your answer in, at least, two hundred words.
Doing What I Can, While I Can Because I  Care,
Alma L. Stepping On Jones
