I told you that I had something that I wanted to share with you and I do. Hope you find the info to be helpful for you or for some of your loved ones. I want to talk about something that affects a lot of people.
When I was diagnosed with diabetes, several years ago, I was devastated! I felt bereft and abandoned. Then I wondered, "Why me?" You know how we tend to have a little bit of a pity party for a minute or so when we are given news of that sort. But the pity party did not last long. Having always been a firm believer in GOD, I took this problem to HIM like I had done for so many things throughout my life. So, to those of you who are coping with a new unwelcome diagnosis of diabetes, let me assure you that life can go on, with only minor changes in your routine.
I have talked with several people about this disease and talked to a couple of groups. I even included a little bit about my walk with diabetes in one of my books, DEI Sub Numine Viget (Under GOD's Spirit, She Flourishes).
But this morning, I got to thinking that I needed to do a blog entree on something that would help people and I remembered how I avidly read anything I could about the disease when I was first diagnosed. I put together a bit of this and a bit of that and came up with a regime that has, to date, stood me in good stead. This is pretty much what I did:
1. Prayed about it and asked for help with managing the disease.
2. Lost some weight.
3. Kept my body hydrated (eighty ounces of water per day) Was this part easy? Nope! But my
health was worth it, I figured.
4. Learned to like pistachios (purported to help with blood sugar)
5. Learned to like green tea with a little cinnamon sprinkled in it.
6. Made sure that I ate some leafy green vegetables daily, along with cucumber.
7. Made sure that I excercised twenty minutes a day, five days a week.
8. Drank alkaline water.
9. Ate a small apple everyday.
10. Used a little apple cider vinegar daily and used coconut oil and olive oil in my frying (when I
did fry).
My A1-C went down, my triglycerides lowered as well as my bad cholesterol. And you know what else? I had energy to burn!
Note: I am, by no means, suggesting that you forgo your doctor's advice, after all, he is the professional. What I am suggesting is that this, along with my doctor, worked for me in helping me to control my blood sugar. Am I still a diabetic? Yes, but with one big difference. I am now a diabetic whose blood sugar is under control and who leads a very productive and fulfilled life.
Question for Pondering:
1. Explain two ways that the chosen title for today's blog session is appropriate? Oh, you don't think it is appropriately entitled? Oh, yes it is too. Now, having said that, can you tell me why?
